About TAMON
Nearly three decades of precision measurement expertise
TAMON Co., Inc. has specialised in precision measurement technology for over three decades since our establishment in 1996.
Operating without sales or marketing departments, our business has grown organically through client referrals and our reputation for solving challenging measurement requirements. We have built our expertise by responding to client requests such as “We need to measure this specific parameter” or “Our measurement equipment has been discontinued—can you develop a replacement?”
Our particular strength lies in production line measurement systems for coating and polishing process control, as well as outgoing inspection equipment. We have extensive experience measuring difficult targets and delivering high-precision measurement solutions. Client relationships typically expand over time: following an initial demonstration, we install thickness measurement systems in production equipment, support horizontal deployment across facilities, and subsequently develop defect inspection systems. Some clients have commissioned over five distinct project types from TAMON (excluding variants and upgrades).
Technical Capabilities
Silicon Wafer Thickness Measurement
Our most prominent expertise is silicon wafer thickness measurement. When asked “What does TAMON do?”, our typical response is “We manufacture thickness measurement systems.”
Diverse Measurement Systems
Beyond our core business, client requirements have led us to develop unique systems across diverse applications:
- •Colour measurement system calculating ink mixture ratios from sample measurements
- •Colorimetric determination system for reagents
- •Portable measurement device for soil mineral content
- •Bicycle-mounted camera system linking location data with images (developed approximately five years before Google Street View)
- •Exhibition booth system for Milan Design Week (commissioned by French design agency)
Customisation Capabilities
Even for our core thickness measurement systems, we actively accommodate customisation of communication protocols and output formats to integrate with existing factory infrastructure.
Communication Methods
Ethernet, PLC, voltage signals, OK/NG determination with DIO, BLE, and others
Measurement Environments
Wet environments, long-distance measurement, high-speed moving objects, multilayer measurement (>5 layers), and others
Our measurement techniques encompass laser sources, white light sources, acoustic waves, and resonance methods. For optical measurements, we have deployed a wide variety of laser sources and spectrometers, and we aim to support all commercially available laser and spectrometer technologies.
